Some we disapprove of, are disgusted by, or hold responsible for all kinds of things real or imagined. This dynamic is expanding and pervasive - but how healthy is it for us? What are its limits?

We’ve got a lot of ground to cover this year, and it’s off with a bang. This month alone provides enough cosmic energy to shake up the whole world. On just one day – February 17th – we have a new moon, a Ring of Fire solar eclipse (the beginning of that unpredictable, potentially life-changing 2-week eclipse window) and The Lunar New Year. The Fire Horse only appears every 60 years. What was happening in 1966? Two Cultural Revolutions began – one in China, and one in the United States!

We’re in a precarious moment. Buddhist monks from Texas have responded in our time of need with a 2,300 mile Walk for Peace. Starting on October 26th, they are traveling 25 miles a day accompanied by a dog named Aloka (“bright light”). They stop in local communities who offer them food and shelter; what they offer in return to all of us is beyond priceless. They’ve galvanized hundreds of thousands with their message of peace. Remember the creativity and peacefulness of the earlier large-scale protests? The rowdy town halls and public meetings? People were angry, but patiently waited to take their turn at the mic to express their views. Some were man-handled and removed. Outside of gatherings, social media posts targeted individuals with threats and violence. Overall it was contentious but somewhat contained. Now the mood has darkened, and the zone is officially flooded. What’s most important to give our attention to?

It’s all coming together - and apart - at the same time! What a process we’re in - but it’s not just about us. The cosmos is bursting with energy, constantly transforming in a dance of mutual exchange. We’re part of that equation, both receiving and initiating to impact the energy bath we swim in. On our planet humans are important as intermediaries between earth and sky. It’s the same with healing work – it helps integrate and ground changes in someone when energy moves between two people.

Kamala’s campaign mantra referred to the previous administration of her opponent. Little did we know a “return” would mean returning to the late 1800’s, known as the “Gilded Age” of Robber Barons. A wealthy few created monopolies to dominate key sectors of the economy, amassing huge fortunes. With corrupt politicians, they ruthlessly exploited natural resources and labor, widening income inequality. Tariffs were in (a general tax on all, no income tax for the rich) along with - colonialism!

It’s been fascinating to interact with 3i-Ah. “Ah” is what I heard on my first visit; it’s a universal seed syllable that opens the throat, as in Amen and Ah-Om. The consciousness I’ve encountered these months has been a teacher for me. Starting tomorrow, over the next 3 days there’s an extraordinary confluence of events. There’s a new moon, the solstice, and – what makes it so unusual - 3i-Ah’s closest flyby with the earth. The sun “pauses” at solstice; it’s a stabilization point to re-orient and embody the new energies we’ve been receiving. Since summer I’ve been in periodic communication with 3i-Ah. It just peaked! There’s always a little sigh of relief after a full moon – especially the Supermoon today. Its out-sized influence on our emotional tides is complemented by the ongoing water trine of Jupiter, Neptune, Saturn and Mercury (in water sign Scorpio.) At the new moon on November 20th, these trined planets were retrograde; now they’ve gone direct. But it’s not all about feeling! The moon in Gemini brings clarity and sharp focus - in preparation for the bigger energies later this month.

A traditional gratitude practice - naming and feeling into what you appreciate - has been proven beneficial in many ways.* Less understood is that gratitude is a 2-way street! Not in the transactional sense - but in giving thanks we open our hearts to receive. Many take a moment to “count blessings” as a prayer of gratitude at the end of the day. It’s easy to integrate that more fully into our lives. Gratitude helps us lead a life of connection, with energy flowing between us and the world.

Texas is like the US – huge in size, encompassing areas vastly different in geography, climate, history, and culture. I just visited Marfa, a little town with an outsized reputation in the southwestern desert. It’s charming and hip, but also real and run-down; too far from a city to be completely gentrified, it sees tourist action a few days a week (posted business hours - “maybe”). It’s most famous for its human footprints, the movie “Giant” and the avant-garde, minimalist artist Donald Judd.
