The Family Energy You Create

Jul 23, 2026

Be the change! If there’s one focus that improves the quality of our lives, those around us and ultimately the world – it’s our relationships. Some we choose, some we are born into. We are the common denominator in all our interactions, so that’s where we start. Personal evolution is usually discussed in terms of personality, habits, mental and emotional stability and spirituality. What is lacking – and essential – is an understanding of the underlying energetic dynamics affecting everything.

Of all our relationships, those with our children seem the most fraught – and critical. We know how much our “family of origin” affects the rest of our lives. Children are in our care - and home - for a relatively short time. There's a lot of pressure to be the best parent possible!

Everyone has their own definition of what a “good” parent is. Most would include creating an environment where children feel emotionally and physically secure. Free to express themselves, curious about the world, intellectually stimulated... happy! The list goes on.

We wish we could give our children an ideal life (whatever that is), but did not come to earth to experience bliss. I’m told it’s one choice of many, and the most difficult path to take. There is suffering, but it’s also a chance to make great karmic progress. We choose parents that will assist us in our evolutionary journey.

Babies seem like a blank slate, but each soul comes in with multitudes of past lives, preferences and history - soul karma. They can’t express it right away, but it’s all there at the beginning. So is the biological karma embedded in DNA; every person is a unique combination of those two karmic streams. They are acted upon, and further shaped, by the experiences and choices of this life.

With a unique set of qualities and potential, every child is a surprise package! We wonder who they are (or will be) and how we can support them to be their best selves. Just like each child in the family is different, each adult in the household has their own distinctive characteristics. To navigate the personalities, sensibilities and needs of everyone in the family can be daunting.

Those factors and combinations tend to make general parenting advice generally helpful. Some categorize behaviours or types, which are just one aspect of the bigger picture. There’s a need for constant adjustment, depending on a child’s developmental phase and what’s happening in the family at the time.

What helps most is a comprehensive model that’s simple to apply and provides a baseline to work with. One that’s flexible and takes into account all involved. Once we identify each person’s strengths and weaknesses and their way of experiencing the world, we can create the best outcomes possible at the time - for everybody!

We all came from some kind of family; ultimately we belong to humanity, and are children of the earth at heart.

Peace, love and healing -
