Boundaries! In nature there are rivers, mountains, and oceans. Most critters, even insects, create homes for themselves and mark territory in other ways. Humans do the same - making buildings, fences and walls to keep something in, or out. I want to focus on boundaries as they relate to the individual. The physical body is the most obvious and essential to respect, but it’s a crude starting point. We rely on our five senses to consciously assess those 3D boundaries, but there is so much more!
Ultimately every thing is not separate, but One. We can tap into it for a bigger perspective, and to stay connected to that underlying truth. Most of us (except enlightened Beings!) live in a dualistic reality. Everything appears separate - the physical, behavioral, mental, emotional and energetic forms and fields.
It’s obvious when physical boundaries are being violated, usually when humans are acting from lower instincts like fear and anger (on a grand scale that is war.) Behavioral boundaries can be easily apparent too - but there is a range of what is accepted culturally, and those definitions can change over time. What is unethical is not always criminal. (Being inside or outside “guardrails” seems to describe that line these days.)
How can we perceive and understand more subtle energetic boundaries? They play a big part in our overall experience but are harder to define, because they’re more fluid and changeable. We do have a boundary baseline, but it changes depending on the context and individual(s) involved in an interaction. That means it's important to discern what is you and what is them, which leads to the first step - understanding your baseline boundary.
Energy Signatures describes the boundary baselines of your energy types. Here's an overview - bearmckay.com/boundaries
Pay attention to your thoughts and feelings in an interaction. If negative, it can be a clue that your habitual (baseline) response is operating. It might also indicate that your boundaries are being violated. The healthiest boundaries are like those fences - meant to keep certain things out, or in - but ultimately flexible and resilient. The place where our habitual responses are sure to come up is with family (especially between parents and children.)
We can use visualization to consciously change our boundary in a situation. The edge of your auric field - that eggshell shaped personal energetic real estate - is your boundary. Contraction creates a more defined boundary and denser auric field; expansion is more inclusive of other energies.
Another beneficial practice is rest into the field of oneness. Since we're still embodied, it's an experience of the broadest range of frequency. All religions suggest that we are not separate, and that humanity has a duty to honor that reciprocal relationship. It's more than a duty, it’s a recognition of the ultimate reality!
